36 Views of Rainier

Mount Rainier, its scale in comparison to anything man-made makes me pause to contemplate our relationship to the natural world in a new and awesome way. The mountain snuck up on me as I followed my daily routine, tantalizing me from the corner of my eye until I had to make it the focus of my art. I have since traveled all over the state of Washington painting Mount Rainier from every imaginable setting. This subject has inspired me to become a wood block artist. The series is an homage to the famous Japanese wood block artist Hokusai and his 36 Views of Mount Fuji. I will be installing this series in locations throughout Washington State where they can be viewed simultaneously.

15" x 17" wood block prints
